Ruffino's Bakery late 1800's
St. Philip Street - French Quarter
In 1890, Signor Giuseppe Ruffino and his wife Teresa arrived in New Orleans, settling promptly in the 600 block of St. Philip in the French Quarter. 73 years later, six out of their ten children resided or ran their businesses in that very block. Above pic represents 1st and very young 2nd generations.
The Ruffino’s proudly claim the title of one of the largest Italian American families in New Orleans, undoubtedly the largest and most tightly knit clan in the French Quarter. They represent 3rd and 4th generations.
At Ruffino Finer Foods, we pride ourselves on our rich culinary heritage, and appreciation of their efforts to produce recipes that were crafted with passion, showcasing the finest ingredients to create exceptional dishes that delight us all.
We have a lot to look at and absorb, so relax with a glass of wine or two and enjoy.
One of the local grocery stores we sell to had a taste testing with stuffed artichokes. One choke was made by the store, one was made by another producer and our artichoke. The results were, Ruffino's was voted by the taste testers #1, second place was the grocery store's and last place was the other producer.
Today in the New Orleans and surrounding areas you will find our stuffed artichokes in most retail food outlets from poboy shops and delis to white table cloth restaurants either under our label or theirs.
We use New Orleans French Bread, Italian Bread Crumbs, Parmesan and Romano Cheese, Garlic, Lemon Juice, Olive Oil, Herbs and Spices.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
